‘Mind Your Own Business’ is for any doctor wants to have a better private practice. When working in the NHS, we are focused on delivering the best clinical care but cannot control how the patient is treated outside our circle of influence.
In private practice, it is different.
In private practice, we have much more control over the experience that we give to our patients and there is an opportunity to really shine and make our patients feel special. Having a successful private practice is about looking after patients, not just treating their pathology.
This book will show you how to look after your patients in a much more comprehensive way. You will start to engage with your patients more effectively which leads to a more satisfying and rewarding experience on both sides and a better clinical practice all-round.
About The Author
I have worked in the NHS for 18 years including 5 years as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon specialising in breast reconstruction. Since leaving the NHS in 2012, I have dedicated my time to my Private Practice focusing on really listening to and looking after my patients.
I grew up in Cornwall and have come from a family of hoteliers who have spent decades improving the hotel industry. Although I decided to choose a different path and dedicated myself to medicine, I have always been influenced by my family and the importance of excellent service in running a good business.
I have built up The STAIANO Clinic from being a one-man band (me) to one of the leading plastic surgery clinics in the UK.
My drive has always been towards delivering a world class experience with the patient at the heart of it.
I now have a group of surgeons working with me which has allowed me to grow and expand the business with a view to developing a national brand that stands for patient-centred care and ethical practice.
If You Want Sustained And Predictable Growth In Your Private Practice, You Need A System
The P.E.C.A.N. Approach brings a structure to your private practice that will allow you to focus on the areas that are going to have the biggest impact on the service that you deliver to your patients.
P - POSITION
Establish yourself in your field.
What makes YOU different from all the other doctors out there offering the same service?
You owe it to your patients to differentiate yourself from your colleagues and demonstrate what you can offer and how you can help them.
E - EXCELLENCE
Develop processes at every stage of a patient's contact with you to deliver an EXCELLENT service.
This is not just about doing a good job clinically (that's a given), but looking after your patients before, during and after they see you.
From providing information to patients who show an interest to keeping in touch with your old patients and everything in between.
C - CONTENT
This is what drives everything.
It is an ongoing process of creating INFORMATION about what you offer that addresses the problems and challenges faced by patients.
This includes written content in the form of emails, webpages and blog posts, audio content as podcasts and video content.
A - AUTOMATE
Put systems in place and lever the use of technology to make sure that the processes you have developed to deliver excellence are executed CONSISTENTLY to every patient.
Make sure it is the systems that deliver excellence, NOT THE PEOPLE.
You cannot rely on people for a long-term sustainable practice.
N - NURTURE
The P.E.C.A.N. approach is for life!
It is an ongoing process that you need to nurture.
Using key metrics to monitor progress, you can isolate which areas are improving and quantify the effects of your efforts.
Continued feedback loops ensure that you can demonstrate tangible effects in the areas that matter.
